From my earliest beginnings as a child, I have always had a strong connection with art and more specifically with drawing. At one point it was all I wanted to do; disappointment came when I entered grade two, and the teacher told me that there wasn’t enough time in class to draw each letter in the alphabet.
Some thirty odd years later, I am still obsessed with the creatures that inhabit my imagination and come pouring out on to the blank page. Drawing is the medium I feel most intimate with. It expresses my desire for the complex, the visceral, and the organic. My drawings contain details of a macro universe through lines, dots, and bubble like cells. The images I create reveal a fine line between growth and decay, beauty and repulsion.
Drawing is not only a means to communicate, but also a way of finding an infinite amount of solutions to a million problems. I am finding the more I explore the self through art, the more is revealed to me in ways I’d never thought of. The source of my motivation is hard to pinpoint with all those layers to peel back, each one revealing another beneath. I surrender to its power without fully grasping the reasons why. I am compelled to create a visual universe mapping out the internal realm of the self.
